Irene L...

I was wondering when I would be able to update. The difference between this and other blogging efforts on my part is that I've actually checked in here every day to kind of remind myself to post something. Well, after having and non-shoot followed by a shoot, I have have something worthwhile to post.

The last 48 hours regarding me and photography have been all over the place as far as doing this as a hobby and doing this "professionally." A comedy of errors on Monday regarding an appointment made me contemplate my status. A shoot on Tuesday tipped the contemplation in a positive direction. While I haven't decided whether or not to stay as just a hobbyist I know that I enjoy this activity and will continue to pursue it for the sheer pleasure of it.

The model above and below is Irene from Whittier. She is fantastic. We met in April as she found me on Model Mayhem asking if I'd be interested in shooting with her. After going through her portfolio I had my doubts because she's been modeling for a while for different photographers and a clothing line. But she liked what I had shot so far and wanted to shoot with me so I accepted. The first time around we did a Cinco de Mayo themed shoot in the Olvera Street area of Los Angeles. She was cool and collected while I struggled to do everything technically correct. After shooting with her in two different outfits we were ready to call it because the sun was just about gone. She told me of a garden on the east side there and checked it out. I then told her to change outfits because, sun or not, we were going to shoot. The best shots of that shoot were there with Union Station lit behind her.

We've been wanting to shoot together since but our schedules never quite worked out until Tuesday. We did a beach shoot in Orange County and she did not disappoint. We got some amazing images with a gorgeous sunset and a rocky coastline to accent the shots. You can bet we're not going to wait so long for the next shoot!

Tiffany M

Before I leave for work I wanted to share a couple of pics of Moreno Valley Model Tiffany M. She is very excited to start a modeling career and I look forward to working with her many times in the future. These shots are from our second shoot together this past Tuesday.

Two reasons for this shoot. One, is trying to get material for Tiffany's and my portfolio and, two, so I could experiment with some of the lighting. Inspiration for this shoot came mostly from Bert Stefani's "Confessions of a Photographer" series. Check out episode 7 and be sure to check out his blog.

Shot with Nikon D200 @22mm,ISO 100, f7.1 @1/400.
Two SB800s were used. One high on a stand camera right in SU4 mode and one on camera in M mode aimed at other speedlight to trigger it. I used this setup to trigger the speedlights at a speed faster than 1/250 sync.

a blog for someone who hates to write...

Good morning and welcome to my blog. I guess right now, if you're a photographer and want to be considered cool, well, a blog is mandatory. I've been hesitant to come over to the dark side but it's cheaper than renewing my own dot com.

I can't promise I'll write here every day or even promise it will be about photography. But I hope to showcase some of my photography and maybe get you a little insight in to who I am, what I'm about and maybe inspire me to shoot a lot more.

Also, feel free to comment at any time but try to keep it clean. While I'm not a big fan of censorship, I deal with a lot of a-holes as part of my day job and really don't want the same attitude following me here. I don't mean to sound negative but it's 4:25 am and my super big gulp went empty an hour ago.

Oh crap, now I need an ending to this entry. How about this?

The End.
